I have a feeling most people here are on cable, but I'll ask anyway!

Anyone on or know anyone on Be Broadband? They've just enabled our exchange so I'm finally going to jump ship from Pipex after they've secretly capped download speeds to 20kbps, charging me £23 a month for 1mb connection whereas they're offering 8mbps for a much cheaper rate to newer customers, and their customer service has gone since being taken over. So looking for some hopefully positive feedback on Be!

Yeah I've really got to get around to dumping pipex. Capping the downloads is so annoying!

Can't believe they did it so sneakily too Mad Lost all faith in them when they did that. I don't actually use p2p much at all, but with linux being distributed that way more commonly now, i don't want to download 4gb at a fraction of the speed i'm paying them to provide me with.

I read some views of Be over on adslguide and it seems to be what i want - calling up in few min to cancel pipex! I don't think Be do email addresses though? Not that i need one though seeing as i can create unlimited @mob453 ones! Laughing but it'd be nice to have a Be one due to the mammoth amount of spam i get

Tis done!

After being on the phone for 45min I've requested my MAC code and ended my Pipex contract!

I've been with Pipex ever since broadband was available in our area Sad Can't even remember how many years that's been!

Did they offer you any deals to stay on board?

If not I might cancel my deal at the weekend and get something else. Cable isn't available in my area though Sad

They offered nothing at all, didn't even sound surprised or really question it, which did surprise me a bit actually. All they did was ask who I'm moving to. Maybe it's cos I specifically requested a MAC code rather than sounding clueless and asking to cancel my account? Or maybe they've been inundated with new customers with the Hoff campaign that it doesn't matter so much. I did mention all the stuff I wasn't impressed with and he said he'd make a note, but sounds like they're not told to get that info Confused

I was half expecting a better offer to at least try and keep my custom, but it wouldn't have made any difference anyway as was determined to leave.

What are you on at the mo? Still the old one like I was (1meg solo or something)?

I've signed up with Be Unlimited now and just waiting for my MAC from Pipex to complete the order Smile

I'm in the same boat as you though - cable doesn't reach my house either Sad I'd sign up with TV and broadband in a flash if they did.
Be's supposed to offer up to 24meg speeds, but that'll only be ideal situations 10m away from the exchange. I'm pretty far from ours so not expecting much else apart from something like 4-8meg (actually 8 might be pushing it as the line quality is poor too). Upload speeds are meant to be up to 1.3meg, which will definitely come in handy considering all the uploading and editing I have to do on mob Smile
Plus either way, the same site that gave the 4-8meg estimate gives me one of 2.8 - 3.6 meg with ADSL Max, so either way it's a better bet going with Be and ADSL2+ I think

Apparently my card date I used to pay Pipex had expired, as the bills are quaterly and usually automatic I didn't even think about it when I got my new card, but Pipex said there's an outstanding balance cos the card details are no longer valid. I asked if I'd get a letter about it so I could update it (seeing as I can't even access the members section at Pipex Rolling Eyes ), but he said "no, you'll get a court summons"!!! Shocked Shocked How ridiculous!! They've got my email, phone no. and home address...they send me the bill usually so couldn't they have sent a bill I could pay with the new card details?!

Well after saying I'd receive my MAC code in 3 days via email...5 days later still no sign of it so I called up, got it over the phone, and typed it into Be Unlimited! Thumbup Goodbye Pipex - glad to know my last experience with customer services was just as poor as the rest of the time!!

ugh trying to update everywhere i've registered in my old pipex email addy to a new email addy is such a pain! Crying or Very sad and i'm sure i'll have missed some as my emails at pipex only go back to April of this year as I have them all on another computer I can no longer access! Rolling Eyes Oh well, guess if I've not had contact within the past 3 quaters of a year, it won't be something I use that often...i hope!!

Have you had a try with connecting?

I've always found in the past that I've been able to connect way before the day that the ISP stated the line will be activated.

No I haven't...Be's slightly different cos it's switching to LLU in order for them to provide the higher speeds (it's ADSL2+ instead of the normal ADSL/ADSL MAX), so I think pretty much what happens is your old connection instantly stops the moment they change you over to their network...i think Confused I might try it anyway later! Very Happy

Either way, I've got a free wireless router from them which I've combined with my existing network to create a repeater, and now I finally have wireless access to all areas of the house! Thumbup

Just hope their service is up to scratch!! Fear

Well i'm connected finally after BT messed things up a bit, but i now have an upload speed which is the same speed as my old download speed (handy for website editing and games), and a download speed between 4 and 5 times the speed of my old one! Thumbup Not bad considering the poor quality line i have and the distance it is from the exchange! Smile Better still - p2p downloads aren't limited unlike Pipex who capped it at 20kbps!

I finally tried the random port + encryption stuff for bittorrent the other day and it I'm back to downloading at full speed.

Still going to dump pipex though  Razz

Yup I did that on one of my last days with them, just made me even more determined to leave as it was so sneakily done Mad I don't download much at all via p2p if I can help it, but when I do I don't expect my old 1mb connection to be capped at a quater of the speed i'm paying for!
