how quick and nippy is this

50mb .iso

installs in 30 seconds, only needs 200 mb space on hard drive

ive never used linux is it any good? is it complex to use/understand?

ive recently started using office 2007 and its brilliant the new GUI is immense

Personally, I think Linux is amazing in terms of what I need it to do for webhosting and stuff, and it's quite powerful in what it can do from the command line, but it's no Windows replacement just yet. Feels sluggish to me compared with XP/Vista. Not sure what DS Linux is like though but most the major larger distros have that slow feeling.

However, with their XGL stuff in Linux (basically uses the graphics card to do purdy stuff and effects!), the desktop side of things has definitely taken a step in the right direction.

If you've got a relatively new computer though don't hold your breath on it working, as I've had *major* compatibility problems in the past.

ive got an almost brand new laptop (had it a month or so now) so i think i'll give it a miss

I've got ubuntu running under VMWare. I like it, don't think I can give up Windows for it yet, but if it keeps on improving, I may be tempted.

i want to bury dsl. really screwed my hard drive something chronic. gone to a full kubuntu install.
