Ever wanted to send a pic in to mobmms but don't want to pay for the price of an MMS?

Now you don't have to!  Cool

I've just added a new method of sending pics in, where you only pay for the data you send (so if you get data included in your tariff, it's free!).

As an example, it'd cost me 36p to send an MMS from Vodafone, even if the photo was really small in size.

I've just sent in http://www.mobmms.com/view/3219.html which isn't the best quality in the world, but it's 4.62kb in size. This means, instead of paying 36p to send in that photo, I've only had to pay 1.05p!!! (well, technically it was free for me as it's part of my bundle).

calculations: £2.35 per MB on my tariff, my pic 0.0045MB, so 235p x 0.0045 = 1.0575p

But just think...that's waaaay less than the price of a text, but instead of sending 160 characters, I've sent in a photo AND text! Thumbup

Want to send in videos?!
No problem, here's my example:
http://www.mobmms.com/view/3149.html

That file was 36.2kb in size, which means it cost me 8.32p - still less than the price of a normal text message but I've now sent in a video!  Shocked On my provider, i'd have been charged 60p to send a video mms!

Calculations: 235p x 0.0354 = 8.319p

On my provider, I think there's a 100KB file-size limit on the video mms messages too - they allow a max of 100kb for the cost of 60p. Using the new mobmms method, you have no limit on the file-size sent, and it would mean you could send a video of about 260KB in size before it could cost you the same price as a normal video MMS! That's over 2.5 times the amount of data for the same cost! Wizard

As if that wasn't enough, it'll give much greater possibilities in terms of user albums and stuff, plus you can now see which phone sent in the MMS! (6230i in the case of the example image above)

Sounds really good doesn't it? In fact...too good? Well yes, the only downside is you need to alter your mms settings, which means you'll need to change them back again if you want to send an MMS to anywhere except mobmms.com - however, for the technically able, this is a small inconvenience for the much cheaper/free mms sending Smile It's really easy too once you've found the settings.

So...here's how to help beta test!

Techno-babble:
You need to change your MMSC center to reflect that of mob's own MMSC center which will sort out all the mms sending for you.

What do I need to change the MMSC to?
Visit http://www.mobmms.com/mmsc/pwd.php on your computer and log in to be given your own unique MMSC center. Your mob453 usernames will work over on mobmms.com btw, so if you've got an account on these forums, no need to sign up again.

How to change this "MMSC" thing:

Here's how to change the mmsc on a nokia (well, worked on my 6230i):
Menu > Settings > Configuration > Personal Configuration Settings > Add new

Then you need to change the account used to send the mms:
Menu > Messages > Message Settings > Multimedia msgs. > Configuration settings > Configuration
Then choose Personal config., and make sure Account is set to whatever you saved it as in the first step.

Then just send an MMS in like you normally would!

That's all there is to it! Thumbup Just let me know how it goes! Smile

Note: if you can't visit http://wap.mobmms.com on your phone due to an adult content filter (ie Vodafone has this implemented), replace the mobmms.com bit in the mmsc url given on http://www.mobmms.com/mmsc/pwd.php with mob453.com, and it'll work just fine Smile

Post any questions etc up here!

Just a quick update to this - a mini avatar pic and image of your phone is displayed now Smile

(the example images linked to in the first post will show this in action)

Currently known to work on Nokia phones, but I've added code for SE, Moto and Samsung phones. In theory anyway! Laughing Won't know for sure til test them out

I've never owned an SE so I've no idea which of these sounds right:

Method 1:
 1. From the main menu scroll to Messaging and press the left hand soft key Select .
2. Highlight Settings and press the left hand soft key Select .
3. Highlight Picture msg and press the left hand soft key Select .
4. Highlight Message server and press the left hand soft key Edit .
5. Hold down the c button to clear any text from the field.
6. Enter the url given at http://www.mobmms.com/mmsc/pwd.php and press the left hand soft key OK .

Method 2:
Go to Menu Messaging Settings Picture msg. Enter details for the following parameters:
Message server: [whatever was on the pwd.php page]
Internet profile: your usual gprs provider name thing

Method 3:
Messaging --> Picture --> Options --> Message server ... type in stuff from the pwd.php page ... in WAP Profile choose the profile you use for GPRS.

Method 4:
(T610/T630 method, but seems same as rest)
1. Enter the main menu list by moving the joystick right.
a. Select <5 Messages> menu.
b. Select <2 Picture>.
c. Select <6 Options>.
i.
Select <6 Message Server> and enter the MMSC IP address as proposed [ie the url on the pwd.php page]
ii.
Select <7 WAP profile>.
iii.
Select <1 Select>.
iv.
Select your usual gprs provider name.

Hopefully one of those will point you in the right direction! Thanks if you manage to test it too Smile

didnt work from my SE W800i but it could be cos im on Orange and didnt get the settings right

I've just sent one from an SE, altho SE T68i...! But here's what I did:

I visited http://sonyericsson.wdsglobal.com/worp/ota/wholesale.tt/sem/wap?siteLanguageId=249 (http://sonyericsson.wdsglobal.com/worp/ota/wholesale.tt/sem/wap?siteLanguageId=249) and got the normal GPRS settings sent to me. I didn't bother with the MMS ones as I won't be needing it.

I then went to Messages > MMS > Options > Message Server
and entered the url from www.mobmms.com/mmsc/pwd.php

I then needed to choose Vodafone GPRS settings I just sent to myself in order to actually send the data.

In the same menu where I chose Message Server, I clicked on WAP Profile, and chose the Vodafone settings in there.

That was it! Smile Worked fine! Just need help with the stupid Motorola V600 now Mad

nope no idea how to get it working. I'll try and borrow a v600 which hadn't been pulled apart like my one which might stand a chance of working better! I know it's not the network preventing it as it works on the t68i, 6100 and 6230i i've tested so far. If anyone else with a moto fancies a try let me know your settings!!

Hmmm your on 64 aren't you?  I have an old geforce 4200ti platinum sitting here doing nothing if it's any good to you but probably won't be upto scratch for your new set up.

I finally got round to changing mine a couple of months back.  Nothing fancy as I don't do online gaming but I now have a Nvidia Geforce 6 6600LE 256mb  Got it hooked upto my Sammy 19" via DVI

yup on 64, currently using a GeForce 2mx (32mb!) with forced drivers! Getting a funny "wave" effect when I had my screen, so i hope it was just down to the card.

Thanks for the offer of your old card! I'd probably actually be able to play HL2 a bit more smoothly then! If I get my monitor back soon I might drop you a message to sort out some paypal payment or something.

Out of curiosity, did you try your screen with vga and with dvi and notice any difference? I've not had a card capable of dvi for, well, ever, but my monitor had had the port in it for ages!

Can you get details of how? Although as there's adult content on the main site i'm not sure they will. Unless it's possible to remove all but the adult address if we give it it's own subdomain?
