Mobile Matters / Phone and Network Chat / Curse you, SonyEricsson...w350i

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones/specifications/w350i?cc=gb&lc=en (http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/file/1.338440.1199113196/W350_frontandside_hypno_black.png) It's the nearest thing I've seen that comes anywhere close to my fave phone the T39!! Would've snapped this up in an instant but they've got and given it 3 year old specs!!! 1.3 megapixel camera, poor screen resolution and range of colours, and probably made it just slightly too long so that it spoils the look. Bah.

Actually just as well didn't go for it, Vodafone's online billing thing finally started working again...used 588 texts last month when I have a 500 text bundle, so a 250 text bundle would be useless! Problem solved

Mobile Matters / Phone and Network Chat / Contract deals
|
on: August 04, 2007, 09:35:44 AM
|
I just need to make sure I've not thrown a good deal away here! My contract is up, and after two years there's still no phones that yell out "buy me", so that leaves the Nokia 8600 and SE w580i as the only ones I like. ok so my theory was, to try and get the 8600 on contract but at a cheap price, and if not, maybe go onto some form of PAYG and buy the w580i for about £180. I rang Voda up but they said they couldn't do a deal on the 8600, and the w580i isn't out with them which kind of messed up things for me! Anyway, the deal I was offered was 150min, 250texts, "unlimited" internet, 12 month contract, and Nokia 6300 for £27.50 a month (for 9 months, then 3 months at £32.50 - so average of £28.75 a month). or the same deal as above, but without a phone, for £20 a month. I've turned both down as I'll be stuck in a 12 month contract with a phone that's ok but not one I was especially keen on, and if one comes out in the next few months I like, I'd be rather annoyed as couldn't get it! But have I thrown away a good network deal? I'll be going onto O2's new Simplicity plan for a while now, £15 a month for 200min, 800txts, 1mb data, 1 month contract, then plan to take out a proper 12 month contract when I see a phone I like. However, downside is, I won't be able to get back on Vodafone with a deal like the above

I see what you mean about being able to see your knee cap now!! Bet it was a bit of a shock to see after landing?! You able to walk on it (can't imagine the skin wanting to stretch as you bend your knee lol) or giving it time to heal?

oopsie/owie! very lucky indeed not to have been any worse off, and esp. for wearing a helmet! my friend got clipped by a truck as it drove past him, and knocked off his bike at high speed...he kind of grazed off most the skin of his upper body as a result, but the helmet had cracked in half...so could've been his head! i want to see the pics, but then I am a bit morbid like that lol - if they're phone pics you could even stick them up at mobmms

Mobile Matters / Phone and Network Chat / Nokia 8600
|
on: June 02, 2007, 11:17:22 PM

I like this phone http://europe.nokia.com/8600 (spec sheet (http://www.nokia.com/NOKIA_COM_1/Press/Materials/White_Papers/pdf_files/Nokia_8600_Luna_data_sheet.pdf)) Doesn't meet my desires of a phone with a cam with a megapixel rating better than that of phones which came out about 2 years ago...(why is everything stuck at 2mp?!), but other than that is a good looking s40 phone The screen on it looked very good from what i saw when I had a go with it, and buttons all feel quite easy to use. Felt heavy too (compared with my 6230i) but in a good, solid way. Reminds me of the nokia 8850 too which i would've liked to have owned. Definitely more a phone about feel and looks than tech though, but tbh the only things i could see myself making use of on a phone at the mo is a decent camera and wi-fi would be nice (altho that's partially due to all the wap testing i need to do on the mobmms site, which adds up after a while!). Quite tempted by it after waiting ages for the n95...then deciding not to go for that, and now left with nothing (that's been announced) in the foreseeable future to tempt me (my 6230i has served me well but it's seriously battered now!) 240 hour standby time is so-so though. Only other ones that kind of suit my phone usages are the SE w580i (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pip1&zone=pp&pid=10856) or se s500i (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pip1&zone=pp&pid=10854) (basically the same as each other, +/- walkman feature as far as i can tell)...but again...2mp cam tech!!! What's up with them all? Where's SEs old style of pushing things forwards more? Maybe they put all their r&d into new button designs Or do I just resign myself to the fact that I'll still be using my 6230i for the 3rd year in a row...

Mobile Matters / Phone and Network Chat / SonyEricsson w580i
|
on: April 01, 2007, 03:06:01 PM
|
After waiting 2 years to find a phone I like, and holding out for the N95 which now it's out I'm going off a little due to concerns over size and battery life (i need to hold a proper model in life still tho), I've been on the look out for an alternative as my 6230i really is dying a slow death! But I came across the SonyEricsson w580i which has rather caught my fancy! Official page up at http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pip1&zone=pp&pid=10856 Specs: Screen: 262.144 color TFT 240x320 pixel Memory: Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™) support, 512MB in box Phone memory 12MB* *Actual free memory may vary due to phone pre-configuration. Networks: EDGE GSM 850 GSM 900 GSM 1800 GSM 1900 Colours: Style White / Urban Grey Standby time: up to 370 hours Talktime: up to 9 hours Sizes: 99 x 47 x 14 mm Weight: 94g Only problems are: 1. only 2mp camera (no autofocus either i think) 2. uses that stupid m2 memory card instead of something SD-related. 3. due out for Q3 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So might be a little dated by the time it's out, plus i can't wait that long, unless I want to carry on with my 6230i which no longer rings! But it's oooh so purdy! Just installing PCLinuxOS MiniMe onto my laptop - it's got no CD drive so USB key only way to install a new OS onto it (something went very wrong with my old XP Pro installation and I can't reinstall XP as it didn't come with a rescue disc! ) I've only got a 512mb flash key drive too so bit more limited to choices of OS - tried fitting XP onto the key but couldn't quite get it to boot off it for some reason, so only left Linux! But...having tried the PCLinuxOS MiniMe from just the USB key before installing it to the harddrive, I must say it looks pretty decent and boots up at a good speed too (my broken XP installation ended up taking an age, but mainly due to broken programs loading once Windows was logged in). Just need to find out if it supports the more advanced power-management features of my laptop, so fingers crossed as it'll be a keeper if so!

Vodafone do it too I believe - never used it tho, but there's always loads on charge when I go in! Quite a good idea if you've forgotten to charge it up, as phones have a habit of going flat just when you really need them! My mum is always doing that, I'll tell her to pop into Orange next time now

I don't think the v535 is a triplets phone like the v600 is, so needs a different type of firmware in order to work.
Try searching Google for a Monster Pack with the following details: Flash Version: R376_G_0E.67.02R Flex Version: SE6633AXXG10C6_1FF
That might bring your phone back to life!

hi - sorry late reply, my broadband died! yes, all you need to do is submit your phone details and imei number to us, and if your imei is in the database, we email you the instructions and code to you. then you just follow the few simple keypresses and your phone is unlocked! virgin sims should work fine too. whole process usually takes between an hour to 72 hours

Oooh I've had my share of bad experiences too! Took an age for my 6230i to arrive as they said it'd been sent. Spent the next week ringing up just about everywhere to try and locate it, and was about to launch a complaint to Royal Mail for losing it in the post...when it turns out Voda had never sent it in the first place as they hadn't got any stock Compared with other companies tho, Voda are on of the better ones in my experience! Plus I got some extra credit put onto my account after complaining

Posting from my phone so might be slightly brief! We can probably unlock that for you as it's on Vodafone if your IMEI is in the database - send an email to unlocking@mob453.com for a quote as i can't remember pricing off the top of my head. I know that if we can't unlock it, neither can Vodafone, so a cable unlock might be the only method then, provided the unlocking software supports that model. If you do email, make sure you mention your username in the email tho so i know what it's in reference to (might even manage a small discount for being a member of the site ). I don't know of any free methods for SE phones, if anyone else reading this does please post up here! About the rest - i've not been on Vodafone payg for quite a while, but on my pay monthly contract, calls to 191 are free of charge - is it not the same for topup tariffs? What was the problem with topping up? Would it not accept your details? You probably don't want to hear it, but I've just had a surprisingly nice experience with Vodafone customer services! Got a month of insurance credited back to me, and a faulty phone exchanged for a brand new one within a few days I've not been able to get my balance sent to me via text tho since October!

I've reached 10989rpm now...got to break the 11k barrier...so close! Addictive stuff - but it must be doing something as struggled getting over 9.5k at the start but can top 10k far more easily now. Dunno if that's due to technique or unused muscles coming to life tho!

I'll keep track of the rpm here so can see if i actually improve on it or not: 3rd go (as didn't have counter on for first 2): 9500 edit: here's the video clip, I'll try and get some better ones later once I know how to use it properly! It'll have to be cable unlock if that's ok? Presuming you've got a usb cable, it's advertised at £17.99 in the store, but if interested send an email to unlocking@mob453.com and the festive spirit might bring a small discount

Try if you can to leave the phone on for a while, perhaps overnight (make sure there's enough battery), without touching anything on it and see if the message still appears to be the same in the morning. If you've tried entering a code, it may be your attempts have been used up with the incorrect code and you need to let it reset itself so that you can enter another unlock code...or not if the message remains, in which case it's definitely hard-unlock only (ie via cable, so getting a code would be a waste of time anyway). However, for a V600 at least, unless you know someone with the right hardware, it's paid unlock only

You can remove the subsidy error if it's still displaying by following our instructions on how to remove the subsidy code error (http://), but the phone will still remain locked and I think your current error message will remain. You can unlock extra features of the phone, and remove any branding by the network, just not remove the network lock unfortunately by flashing/flexing it You'll either need to take it to a shop which can unlock it locally, call up T-Mobile to get the unlock code, or I can naturally recommend our own Motorola unlocking service (http://www.mob453.com/unlocking/motorola-remote-cable-unlock-p-30.html) Had you tried entering a subsidy code btw?

Anyone seen/got one?! I'm not a big gamer, and most games, if i had a choice, i'd rather play on my PC as it's pretty hard to beat a keyboard/mouse combo for the majority of games i like (eg Half-Life and other FPS). Only consoles i've owned have been the NES and Megadrive, which i loved! And then the Gamecube...except i bought very very few titles for it, and just ended up playing fun multiplayer games on it like Smash Bros! So having the latest most powerful console isn't a big factor as my PC can beat them for graphics anyway. But for the first time in years i'm actually tempted to buy a console - the Wii (why oh why, Nintendo, did you not stick with the name "Revolution"?! I don't want to walk into a shop and declare that i need a Wii!) It just seems like Nintendo are focussing on making games fun and enjoyable, and maybe a bit quirky too and i like that! Could imagine having fun on it with friends round for a laugh rather than a serious hardcore gaming session as it seems a more "sociable" console. But i've only seen pics and adverts on it...anyone know if they're actually any good and if the controllers work as advertised?! Posted via WAP (http:///forum/index.php/topic,494.0.html) - Nokia6230i

It's probably just because I've gotten used to mysql front, but I don't really get on with either of those programs - SQLyog was the closest, but still wasn't quite as logical or quick at doing simple things. So I was trying to find a download for mysqlfront and accidentally came across HeidiSQL, and it looks very similar to mysqlfront! Giving it a go now and seems just what I wanted so far Bonus of being free too, which mysqlfront wasn't, so no more annoying "register this now" popups!

I didn't even know it could photo edit! I didn't even bother checking, just found it handy for the organising stuff. Unfortunately due to my phone naming photos the same name each time (i.e. i've got loads of Image0001.jpg files ), and photos spanning across 4 computers...folder sorting hasn't really been that easy as they keep getting lost when moved somewhere when computer is formatted etc. This even allows you to delete duplicate photos which is useful as I can't discriminate based on file names, so would have to open up each individual Image0001.jpg file in order to see what it is

Well i'm connected finally after BT messed things up a bit, but i now have an upload speed which is the same speed as my old download speed (handy for website editing and games), and a download speed between 4 and 5 times the speed of my old one! Not bad considering the poor quality line i have and the distance it is from the exchange! Better still - p2p downloads aren't limited unlike Pipex who capped it at 20kbps! Anyone able to recommend any? I used to use mySQL front, but as you can see from http://www.mysqlfront.de/ it appears to have been removed! Basically I just need something handy to connect to my databases (mysql) so I can test commands out, and just general admin type stuff. I've got phpMyAdmin or whatever it's called on the server, but I always find server/web ones rather slow and annoying to use.

argggggggghhhh! Just installed XP again, was looking forward to using IE 6 again instead of IE 7, but in the process of reinstalling all Windows Updates, they've gone and stuck IE7 in there Last time I tried to uninstall the thing it broke IE completely! Hmm maybe I'll have more luck this time. 2nd item I installed (after graphics driver) was FireFox though Plus found a work-around for that really irritating "feature" where instead of Alt + S acting as the shortcut to posting stuff on this forum, it opened the History menu instead So I can finally use FF2 a bit more properly now like how I used to with FF 1.5

No I haven't...Be's slightly different cos it's switching to LLU in order for them to provide the higher speeds (it's ADSL2+ instead of the normal ADSL/ADSL MAX), so I think pretty much what happens is your old connection instantly stops the moment they change you over to their network...i think I might try it anyway later! Either way, I've got a free wireless router from them which I've combined with my existing network to create a repeater, and now I finally have wireless access to all areas of the house! Just hope their service is up to scratch!!

Yup it's not really that different - they haven't got the new windows filesystem in it either have they? i haven't read about that for months so not sure what the status is on it. Considering the amount of time between XP and Vista, there's not a huge difference at all - and the 3d desktop has already been outdone by XGL imo! I'd be tempted to buy it, but that's only because I lost my copy of XP Pro and have been living off trial and beta versions of Windows since Jan! Although considering the cost of most windows editions...i probably won't! Although actually...I've still got the validation key thingy...might just download it of a torrent site as it'd still be legit sort of then wouldn't it? I still find Linux too slow so unwilling to switch at the mo Takes an age to boot compared with XP/Vista, and just generally doesn't feel as snappy.

I like it, nothing groundbreaking though. What graphics card you got? You'll be missing some of the effects if it's not able to support them. It was weird to get used to at the start (the way you navigate thru folders and stuff is different), but not too bad now. Hmm what else...DrNo, anything I missed?! It's like a patched up and made-over version of XP. I've not had XP installed on my desktop so can't do a direct comparison, but it's quite fast (probably faster boot time), IE7 fits in a bit better than it does on XP, search is a bit more speedy (well, a lot - and searches emails too), the sidebar thing on Vista is rather spiffing - shows weather, time, ram usage, rss feeds, etc, networking is meant to be easier, i'm not convinced on that just yet though. Oh it also has the added bonus of not working with a lot of programs I can't copy songs onto my Sony mp3 player at the mo as the awful sony software which was bad enough to use on XP doesn't work after the first go in Vista. Several other progs don't work (I had Nero problems), but I expect after it's properly released these will be updated...i hope. I've been running the pre-RC release, so stuff will be missing or broken in this (eg media centre doesn't work so I can't sync pdas), but will be working in the final (if not already working in the proper RC).

I used to use Motorola Phone Tools if my memory serves me correctly That came on a cd with the phone but you might be able to download a copy off their website if they've been good and haven't done that annoying thing of making it cd only Otherwise, p2kman (there's an old copy at http://www.mob453.com/phones/motorola_v600/) should be able to do the job, albeit not as user-friendly. Hmm I'm not sure of any others cos my v600 was pretty limited space-wise so i never really copied anything to it!

Anyone used Picasa before? I've never organised any of my photos since getting a digital camera years and years ago, but been forced to finally as friend had laptop stolen along with all the photos on it Luckily i have copies of some of them, but i just don't know where So i downloaded Picasa and gave it a go, and it's helped me so much in finding photos and organising them, and another great feature is the detection of duplicates Because i sometimes didn't delete all the photos off when copying over, or like with my Nokia where it doesn't have a decent naming format for the pics so i end up with hundreds of Image001 titles, i'd end up with loads of duplicates...i didn't realise just how many tho as took up about 400mb! Definitely recommended for this sort of thing. I haven't really tried much other software so maybe there's better, but i didn't really see the point in trying others as this did the job for me My only problem now is how on earth i check what's in each 3gp video so i can sort them out! Will take a while to load each on up individually! Ooh actually i think i've just found a job for my Linux system! edit: oh it appears to be able to view 3gp vids too! I installed a variant of Gentoo yesterday, worked better than before as now, ooh...10months after building my PC, they've finally gotten round to supporting some of it!
Sound finally works, and the XGL runs nicely at 1680x1050.
I must say I think i prefer the effects in XGL over Vista - makes Vista look kinda safe and static - eg in XGL the windows are kind of elasticy so wobble when you move them. (see http://www.mobmms.com/view/6922.html for an eg). Although Vista does look better and the themes are more polished.
However, it's still waaay too slow, takes ages to start up compared with Windows, applications are slow to load, the font system is still pretty poor, and (dunno if it's XGL or what) overheats my PC as either the mobo fan or graphics card fan is on nearly all the time, compared with hardly ever (except during a game perhaps) with Windows.
Don't think I'll be switching still, but tempted to leave it on my HD for some handy command line utils and stuff

They offered nothing at all, didn't even sound surprised or really question it, which did surprise me a bit actually. All they did was ask who I'm moving to. Maybe it's cos I specifically requested a MAC code rather than sounding clueless and asking to cancel my account? Or maybe they've been inundated with new customers with the Hoff campaign that it doesn't matter so much. I did mention all the stuff I wasn't impressed with and he said he'd make a note, but sounds like they're not told to get that info I was half expecting a better offer to at least try and keep my custom, but it wouldn't have made any difference anyway as was determined to leave. What are you on at the mo? Still the old one like I was (1meg solo or something)? I've signed up with Be Unlimited now and just waiting for my MAC from Pipex to complete the order I'm in the same boat as you though - cable doesn't reach my house either I'd sign up with TV and broadband in a flash if they did. Be's supposed to offer up to 24meg speeds, but that'll only be ideal situations 10m away from the exchange. I'm pretty far from ours so not expecting much else apart from something like 4-8meg (actually 8 might be pushing it as the line quality is poor too). Upload speeds are meant to be up to 1.3meg, which will definitely come in handy considering all the uploading and editing I have to do on mob Plus either way, the same site that gave the 4-8meg estimate gives me one of 2.8 - 3.6 meg with ADSL Max, so either way it's a better bet going with Be and ADSL2+ I think Apparently my card date I used to pay Pipex had expired, as the bills are quaterly and usually automatic I didn't even think about it when I got my new card, but Pipex said there's an outstanding balance cos the card details are no longer valid. I asked if I'd get a letter about it so I could update it (seeing as I can't even access the members section at Pipex ), but he said "no, you'll get a court summons"!!! How ridiculous!! They've got my email, phone no. and home address...they send me the bill usually so couldn't they have sent a bill I could pay with the new card details?!

Can't believe they did it so sneakily too Lost all faith in them when they did that. I don't actually use p2p much at all, but with linux being distributed that way more commonly now, i don't want to download 4gb at a fraction of the speed i'm paying them to provide me with. I read some views of Be over on adslguide and it seems to be what i want - calling up in few min to cancel pipex! I don't think Be do email addresses though? How on earth can some of them get it so wrong yet be sure enough of it to ring up an expensive number?! And how do they all have such a variation?! I have a feeling most people here are on cable, but I'll ask anyway!
Anyone on or know anyone on Be Broadband? They've just enabled our exchange so I'm finally going to jump ship from Pipex after they've secretly capped download speeds to 20kbps, charging me £23 a month for 1mb connection whereas they're offering 8mbps for a much cheaper rate to newer customers, and their customer service has gone since being taken over. So looking for some hopefully positive feedback on Be!

Doh! Sometimes you can recover a dead phone by flashing it with the correct "monster" flash file, but you'd need to be able to got into bootloader mode in order to do that Ah well at least it wasn't your main phone You might want to check out the Motorola Tool programme too which is linked to in one of the sticky topics at the top of this forum ("Useful Motorola Tools and Tips" i think it's called) if you haven't already, as it lets you do some nice edits without much bother! I think (it's been a while), that the v551 is *not* a triplets phone like the v600, and takes a different version of the firmware. So your math would be right unfortunately!
There might be a fix - can you boot it into bootloader mode by pressing * and # whilst switching it on?

Personally, I think Linux is amazing in terms of what I need it to do for webhosting and stuff, and it's quite powerful in what it can do from the command line, but it's no Windows replacement just yet. Feels sluggish to me compared with XP/Vista. Not sure what DS Linux is like though but most the major larger distros have that slow feeling.
However, with their XGL stuff in Linux (basically uses the graphics card to do purdy stuff and effects!), the desktop side of things has definitely taken a step in the right direction.
If you've got a relatively new computer though don't hold your breath on it working, as I've had *major* compatibility problems in the past.

Not sure if i've mentioned this programme before, but it needs a mention either way! Basic idea of the show is 5 randoms get together and host a dinner party, rating each other in secret at the end of the show - person with the highest score wins £1000. Now that all sounds fairly simple but it's just that magic mix of stuff that creates tv gold! It's such a good programme and fills in the void i've had since QuizMania departed our terrestrial screens...albeit at a more reasonable 4.15pm afternoon slot! It also features the most amusing voiceover guy...ever! He really helps make the show! Anyone else seen it? If not, i demand you do! ...providing this weeks one wasn't the last in the series... You could partition your harddrive, altho that could still mess things up! Vista is weird...i like it, but find it soo much harder to navigate, and i wouldn't exactly call myself a computer novice! I also don't like the new search...it's quicker for basic stuff, but for advanced searches which is most of what i do, it doesn't find stuff that is of the exact filename i search for... i'm giving the pre-RC1 a go so maybe that'll fix some of the things, but it's definitely not easier to use imo. Well, half informative post here, half memo for myself. Finally upgraded my contract today after having a 12 month contract which expired about 6 months ago! Applies as of midnight tonight. Was half tempted to switch over to Orange, as the phone I don't want but am giving to my sis otherwise i'll have gone a full year without a free upgrade, was quite a bit cheaper and they offered double the texts. T-Mobile offered a cheaper phone and 50 more min and 100 more texts a month...but it's T-Mobile so out of the question! Anyway, seeing as the new Vodafone tariffs are a massive pile of I wasn't impressed and actually tempted by Orange. The new tariffs don't include data which, running this site and mobmms is kind of useful! Picture messages I don't send that many of anyway so doesn't affect me that much. So all this meant my old tariff was better than their new ones, as included data and texts! So...I'm back on my original tariff, for 12 months again rather than 18, with the phone at not a bargain price, but better than advertised - quite happy I recon if I'd pushed a bit more I might've got a better price on the phone, but oh well!

Yeah... there is a reason for that but i need to alter it. Basically Google grabs the images and pulls people in using their image search function. Uncensored pics will pull people in more so than blurry so i made a compromise. However, with the new site i've got some tricks lined up my sleeve so it's visible to Google but not guests, but maybe once i sort out the other problems! Yay I'm finally back after a spot of bother! Got the plane back but it was late, which unfortunately meant i got back to the uk too late for the last train home! So was stuck at Manchester for a while as taxi prices were far too ridiculous to pay (£30 to get from Man airport to Man Picadilly station?! I think not...). Doesn't look like i've missed much here though! Went to Cannes, Nice and St. Tropez for a quick break seeing as i don't get a summer anymore Nice but ooh so expensive for anything! Saw Elton John in the airport in Nice though! Was too scared to try and get a photo tho as he was in a stroppy power-walking mood from the looks of things! i didn't want to get a battering or verbal abuse! Well I couldn't...but then realised that was because FireFox didn't have the plugin required to play it! But now I can hear it very loud and clear No idea if different speaker settings etc affect it though, eg if it distorts it from the official levels or something which allows me to hear it, or if i can just hear it anyway! Either way, I've got my new phone call ringtone

Ooohhh...so purdy! Now I've got a graphics card that works properly, I can see the nice effects of the Vista OS I quite like it, windows fade and and out, transparency and glowing bits. I still really like the effects on Linux with XGL, esp the kind of bouncy windows when dragging them, but this seems bit, erm, neater I guess. Might have to give XGL a whirl again tho now I've got a better card

I got a text from them about this...only just noticed I actually had an extras pack! Got £60 this month as never used it yet somehow. Must be because the texts and mms/video messages come out of my text bundle, which I don't always get through anyway Unless this is my 500 text bundle, in which case I most certainly won't be amused! My bill says Anytime 200 + 500 text + FOC 25...so I've had £25 of extras I've not been using each month for over a year?! I presume the 500 text thing I have will still function the same way and I can have my mms messages deducted from that?

Why do you need to remove them if they've not been getting displayed? What are you sending them from - PM me with details so I can look it up for you. I can't see anything that's coming in to the site recently without photos so unless they're being made inactive because they're not phone photos, I'll need a bit more info to help you I'm afraid. But if you send in photos using your own special email address found at http://www.mobmms.com/info/albums/ you'll be able to made any photos active/inactive to the public youself

You'll have to check with hecatae for definite whether a normal usb cable can be used or not as it may need to be a special one. You'd then download a piece of software and using a username and password we give you, would connect to a server and have the phone unlocked within minutes/seconds.
The postal method you won't need a cable but will need to send it off so will be without it for a few days.
i don't know if your phone software has any branding on it, but it might also be possible to remove it at the same time, although not sure on this as not at pc.
check out the sonyericsson section at www.mob453.com/unlocking/ as that might have a bit more info.
i think it's about £10 with either method if i remember correctly, i'd normally offer a discount to forum members, but that's already about as low as it can go!

Well I've finally ordered the last major component of my PC...the graphics card!! Had a real tough time trying to decide between nVidia 7900gt or the ATI 1800xt, similar but different! - 7900gt runs nice and cool and takes up only one slot instead of two - 7900gt consumes less power - 7900gt can be modded to 7900gtx speeds - 1800xt supports hdr and aa in 32bit mode, whereas the 7900gt doesn't - 1800xt overclockable via program not via pencil-mod - 1800xt supposedly ATI have slightly better quality video I was soo close to getting the 7900gt mainly due to the single-slot and "low" power design, but the fact that it doesn't properly support hdr bugged me slightly. Altho in honesty I probably wouldn't notice or play that many games that support that feature... But the price drop after the nVidia 7950s, or whatever they're called, never really happened, I just thought it's stupid waiting any longer and took the plunge...on an ATI 1900xt instead! Only reason being for £50 more I've got a card that supports all the features at the moment and should better suit the higher res of my monitor, so made more sense in the long run to pay a bit more for a higher performance boost and in the process automatically solved my dilemma of which card to choose! Only downside is it's powerhungry and hot, something I've tried to avoid when building my pc, but ah well can't have everything. By the time directx 10 cards are out, they'll be really expensive so I won't be able to buy them anyway, and I'd wait for the 2nd gen of dx10 cards cos there could be bugs seeing as it'll be the first cards of a new tech, so by the time that's out, it'll probably be upgrade time again anyway But look at the size of it (http://img.ncix.com/images/18883_PV.jpg) Will eventually hook it up to the watercooling setup, but I think I need ramsinks or something and dunno where to get them from But the backplate will still taken up two slots even tho i won't have the massive fan on it

It is ridiculous, but the same with a lot of the mobile companies threaten to leave and they should offer you a better deal, but still, the fact remains that loyal long term customers aren't rewarded when they should be - they're just promoting disloyalty as you often get a better deal by leaving and starting again! Hmm not sure, it kind of sounds a bit like a software fault in a way - a Nokia I had wouldn't get rid of the voicemail message no matter how many times I listened to it! I guess it shouldn't be hardware related seeing as it's worked fine for so long and you've not done anything to it...but it is quite a random fault to develop! When you connect it to the computer, does Windows recognise that it's connected? Or is it just the software you used to transfer the contents over that doesn't think it's there?

Hi, not sure if this is the right area to post, but it concerns messages!
will you be implementing a 'message counter'/'new message added' displayed on the front page? so I/we can see if comments have been added to a particular pic/movie without having to go into the pic page.. ?
Yup, this is the right place! Well, at least til I sort something better out over on mobMMS. That's a good idea actually! I'll have a think of how to best display the number of comments a photo/vid has on the thumbnails page and try and get it up and running within the next couple of weeks while I think of it.. will you be reserving the right to only allow registered members to post, basically a saftey cushion if there's an influx of idiots that just post offensive comments for the sake of it... re. mobog again ( sorry!)
Funny you should mention that as guest posting ability was removed last week for exactly that reason Decided it was better to lose some genuine posts from guests in favour of keeping the atmosphere nice. Members also get higher quality thumbnails than guests do now too, so there's an increasing list of reasons for guests not to stay guests for long! Also added (today) the ability for members to report abusive personal messages to the admin team if people choose to get personal for some reason. Will hopefully be adding something like this and maybe a bit more to the proper commenting section, but that won't be for a while. PS. photo 'reflections' look cool!
Thanks, glad you like them! Smartens the site up a little i think

I don't think that the v551 is a triplets platform phone like the v600 is, therefore needs (or needed) different firmware files to be used with it. Try and find some V551 firmware files, you might be able to revive it if you're lucky, although you'd need the computer to recognise it in order to do that in the first place... Have you tried starting it in bootloader mode (hold the * and # button at the same time and switch it on)?

Put the public beta on - sooo much better than the alpha version I tried, but what on earth have they done with IE7!? It destroys perfectly working and valid sites Shame as otherwise I'd switch back to IE7+ in an instant as seems even faster than FF. Anyway, installed the 32bit version instead this time as fed up of not being able to install programs to proper drivers as nothing much is 64-compatible yet Seems nice, altho I preferred the Media Player from the alpha version. I need to get a new graphics card too...my Vista performance rating is a massive...1 That's mainly thanks to the graphics card (32mb geforce2 mx card) being rated as 2, and "gaming" graphics as none-existant, so given a 1!

yup on 64, currently using a GeForce 2mx (32mb!) with forced drivers! Getting a funny "wave" effect when I had my screen, so i hope it was just down to the card.
Thanks for the offer of your old card! I'd probably actually be able to play HL2 a bit more smoothly then! If I get my monitor back soon I might drop you a message to sort out some paypal payment or something.
Out of curiosity, did you try your screen with vga and with dvi and notice any difference? I've not had a card capable of dvi for, well, ever, but my monitor had had the port in it for ages!

I know it's not the network preventing it as it works on the t68i, 6100 and 6230i i've tested so far. If anyone else with a moto fancies a try let me know your settings!!

I know, considering most the time you're having to ring up to fix something that's their fault in the first place, it's a bit cheeky charging a premium for it! I had a problem with BT recently as they didn't lay their lines properly so workmen cut through them by accident leaving me internet and phone-less for a week, and i got charged a load trying to get it resolved Posted via WAP (http:///forum/index.php/topic,494.0.html) - Nokia6230i

If it's the same as the 6230i, which i think it might well be, it can store 150 on the phone or something like that. As for saving messages to sim card, you'd probably be best off saving them to pc if possible via pc suite. I've had enough of them completely now. I don't download stuff very often from Torrents etc, but when I do I expect them to download as fast as my connection allows (eg downloading several GB of a linux distro), but today I noticed I seemed to have been capped at 20kbps without any mention from Pipex about doing this After poor CS experience, a few dodgy connection problems (no net for a few days), and charging existing customers who've been very loyal to them for years more than new customers (not to mention the fact new customers can get the higher 8mb speeds but existing can't at the mo), I'm finally packing it in with them. So...suggestions for a new ISP please! Nildram and Eclipse seem to be the ones most Pipex people are switching to, but PlusNet used to be pretty good when I last checked (plus its based about 15min away from me!), any others? Don't even mention cable as it comes nowhere near me

Oh no what a bad experience! VK handsets are very hit and miss when it comes to unlocking - basically the code for your imei is either in the vodafone database of codes, in which case you can unlock it, else nothing in the list = no code. What was the code they gave you? Sounds more like they've given you some kind of reset code rather than unlock code. Does the phone display any error messages at all? didnt work from my SE W800i but it could be cos im on Orange and didnt get the settings right
I've just sent one from an SE, altho SE T68i...! But here's what I did: I visited http://sonyericsson.wdsglobal.com/worp/ota/wholesale.tt/sem/wap?siteLanguageId=249 (http://sonyericsson.wdsglobal.com/worp/ota/wholesale.tt/sem/wap?siteLanguageId=249) and got the normal GPRS settings sent to me. I didn't bother with the MMS ones as I won't be needing it. I then went to Messages > MMS > Options > Message Server and entered the url from www.mobmms.com/mmsc/pwd.php I then needed to choose Vodafone GPRS settings I just sent to myself in order to actually send the data. In the same menu where I chose Message Server, I clicked on WAP Profile, and chose the Vodafone settings in there. That was it! Worked fine! Just need help with the stupid Motorola V600 now

Don't suppose you noticed the birthday cake that appeared in your profile yesterday? (yes, a picture of a cake actually appears!) Happy Birthday for yesterday! Erm but how did you lose the back cover?! I always thought they were pretty well secured! On the upside, at least you weren't left with the battery cover but lost the phone! The saving of text messages is a blessing and a curse at the same time - sometimes they're really handy as I can't remember what I said to someone and it's useful to know what they're talking about to me the next day, but then if mine are anything like yours, it's sometimes very much better best forgotten! Always amusing finding random photos/videos I don't remember taking 4 months later though! Even got someone doing a moonwalk for some reason!

...and there's not a single phone that takes my fancy k800i/k790i have a massive bulge at the back that sticks out thanks to the 3.2 MP cam k610i is best looking camera phone in SEs range at the mo, but no auto-focus on cam so technically inferior to w810i w810i kind of last years model with a few tweaks, but other than that good looking phone and set of features. Screen res not amazing by todays standard (lower than my 6230i) nokia-wise, The next version of my current phone is finally out, the 6234. Shame it looks like their cheapo range of phones Good screen though. ...Er...that's it from their range! N72 looks ok and has decent specs but probably won't appear for ages. I was going to suggest some evil plot to delay releasing decent phones until 18month cycles are up in order to get customers to sign up to the longer contracts, but that wouldn't be good business sense for the phone makers. So what exactly is stopping something decent and not based on last years technology coming out!? This upgrade needs to last me another year so I don't want to buy something that'll end up being 2 years old technically Makes me wish I'd gone for an 18month contract now, but you can bet that if I do that this year, in 12 months time there'll be endless handsets I'd want to upgrade to! aaanyway, needed to get that out and i feel better now thanks rant over!

I've been messing with the site since he posted - basically avatars stored on mob453 don't work over on mobmms, so i've had to disable them over there. You just need to use the tool in your profile to get one the right size and shape (as only square avatars are used over there). Although I've just realised the avatar uploader is broke, so i'll just fix it ok it's working again lol, just go to your profile on mobmms to sort out a new avatar (there's a link in the left column in the news bit about avatars)

You've also signed up to about every ringtone site you can find to spam this junk (which btw is three times more expensive than mob453 ), so consider this your final warning before a ban. edit: actually I see you've actually been banned for exactly the same thing on other sites. I've seen how much you're willing to spam without seeming to care, therefore I'm not taking the risk and you are officially mob453's first banned member - congratulations.

I can't check the info for you just yet unfortunately as about to go out for a bit, but I know you should be able to "seem edit" it to get it to show the firmware version etc if you need it desperately! There's a tool in the useful Motorola tools thread at the top of this forum which should make it easier to edit the seems (just download the seem files off your phone, tick a few boxes, and upload them again)
Hopefully someone will post up here before i do though anyway

I've never owned an SE so I've no idea which of these sounds right: Method 1: 1. From the main menu scroll to Messaging and press the left hand soft key Select . 2. Highlight Settings and press the left hand soft key Select . 3. Highlight Picture msg and press the left hand soft key Select . 4. Highlight Message server and press the left hand soft key Edit . 5. Hold down the c button to clear any text from the field. 6. Enter the url given at http://www.mobmms.com/mmsc/pwd.php and press the left hand soft key OK . Method 2: Go to Menu Messaging Settings Picture msg. Enter details for the following parameters: Message server: [whatever was on the pwd.php page] Internet profile: your usual gprs provider name thing Method 3: Messaging --> Picture --> Options --> Message server ... type in stuff from the pwd.php page ... in WAP Profile choose the profile you use for GPRS. Method 4: (T610/T630 method, but seems same as rest) 1. Enter the main menu list by moving the joystick right. a. Select <5 Messages> menu. b. Select <2 Picture>. c. Select <6 Options>. i. Select <6 Message Server> and enter the MMSC IP address as proposed [ie the url on the pwd.php page] ii. Select <7 WAP profile>. iii. Select <1 Select>. iv. Select your usual gprs provider name. Hopefully one of those will point you in the right direction! Thanks if you manage to test it too

|
on: April 21, 2006, 06:11:13 PM

Ever wanted to send a pic in to mobmms but don't want to pay for the price of an MMS? Now you don't have to! I've just added a new method of sending pics in, where you only pay for the data you send (so if you get data included in your tariff, it's free!). As an example, it'd cost me 36p to send an MMS from Vodafone, even if the photo was really small in size. I've just sent in http://www.mobmms.com/view/3219.html which isn't the best quality in the world, but it's 4.62kb in size. This means, instead of paying 36p to send in that photo, I've only had to pay 1.05p!!! (well, technically it was free for me as it's part of my bundle). calculations: £2.35 per MB on my tariff, my pic 0.0045MB, so 235p x 0.0045 = 1.0575p But just think...that's waaaay less than the price of a text, but instead of sending 160 characters, I've sent in a photo AND text! Want to send in videos?! No problem, here's my example: http://www.mobmms.com/view/3149.html That file was 36.2kb in size, which means it cost me 8.32p - still less than the price of a normal text message but I've now sent in a video! On my provider, i'd have been charged 60p to send a video mms! Calculations: 235p x 0.0354 = 8.319p On my provider, I think there's a 100KB file-size limit on the video mms messages too - they allow a max of 100kb for the cost of 60p. Using the new mobmms method, you have no limit on the file-size sent, and it would mean you could send a video of about 260KB in size before it could cost you the same price as a normal video MMS! That's over 2.5 times the amount of data for the same cost! As if that wasn't enough, it'll give much greater possibilities in terms of user albums and stuff, plus you can now see which phone sent in the MMS! (6230i in the case of the example image above) Sounds really good doesn't it? In fact...too good? Well yes, the only downside is you need to alter your mms settings, which means you'll need to change them back again if you want to send an MMS to anywhere except mobmms.com - however, for the technically able, this is a small inconvenience for the much cheaper/free mms sending It's really easy too once you've found the settings. So...here's how to help beta test! Techno-babble: You need to change your MMSC center to reflect that of mob's own MMSC center which will sort out all the mms sending for you. What do I need to change the MMSC to? Visit http://www.mobmms.com/mmsc/pwd.php on your computer and log in to be given your own unique MMSC center. Your mob453 usernames will work over on mobmms.com btw, so if you've got an account on these forums, no need to sign up again. How to change this "MMSC" thing: Here's how to change the mmsc on a nokia (well, worked on my 6230i): Menu > Settings > Configuration > Personal Configuration Settings > Add new Then you need to change the account used to send the mms: Menu > Messages > Message Settings > Multimedia msgs. > Configuration settings > Configuration Then choose Personal config., and make sure Account is set to whatever you saved it as in the first step. Then just send an MMS in like you normally would! That's all there is to it! Just let me know how it goes! Note: if you can't visit http://wap.mobmms.com on your phone due to an adult content filter (ie Vodafone has this implemented), replace the mobmms.com bit in the mmsc url given on http://www.mobmms.com/mmsc/pwd.php with mob453.com, and it'll work just fine Post any questions etc up here!

Vodafone offer unlimited texts and picture messages to students, but it's on an 18 month contract. Orange have a decent student deal too but 18 months again. However, none offer as many mins but have more texts, although with Vodafone you'd get Stop the Clock giving you a huge no of off-peak calls which would technically be more than the others i think (posting from phone so can't double check or view what you put in your first post!). Although you'd need to make more than a 3 min call each time for it to be of use. I didn't want an 18 month contract so stuck with 12 as thought i'd be tempted by soo many shiny new phones...but my upgrade is now due and it's still all last years technology, so wondering if i might as well have gotten a better tariff deal as it might be closer to 18 by the time something comes out i like! We provide free unlocking wherever possible - just check out this very forum and you'll see the free nokia unlocker we made, along with codes for certain phones and software for certain others - so certainly no scamming going on otherwise we'd make people pay for those too.
So if you do know of a free method, post it up here for everyone to share. It's much more helpful.

Argh i'm not sure how i'm going to cope! The workmen featured in the pic i sent in to mobmms yesterday was taken not long before they managed to cut through the main BT phone line, leaving me with no incoming calls, but more importantly...no internet connection! It's the 2nd day now, i'm just glad i can post via wap still Although at this rate i'll get through all my free data by the time it's up and running again Posted via WAP (http:///forum/index.php/topic,494.0.html) - Nokia6230i

Good idea about resting it - they really do take a very long time to heal sometimes! Mine still isn't right from when I did mine last year http://www.mobmms.com/view/847.html That's what it looked like before the bruising came out when i did it again after it had nearly healed! Luckily that time I hadn't gone over on it as badly. I think i'd actually trapped a nerve one of the last times I did it, as I got pins and needles each time I stepped on it for about 2 months after.

I don't, but others might - so I just need a bit of help here! As you know the forums are already rss-a-fied, but I've just done the same, albeit it a bit more complicated, with mobMMS (non-adult only at the mo). I've made it so it's supposed to show images/thumbnails/both in the feed, but I've no idea if it actually does! It seems to be ok using the online yahoo thing, but I have no idea what people use to view it normally, so feedback very welcome

Doh for the possible breakage and for missing out on her special treatment! I'm sure we can think of some scientific methodology to back up the theory that it'd really help your ankle...if it was an open wound it really would thanks to the special qualities of saliva - next time you damage it (i think you're due this week going on this thread!), try and get a bit of bone to poke through the skin Thought of maybe getting it checked out properly yet?! If nothing else you should get some free strapping for it by paying them a visit! Although not sure it's worth the 5 hour wait you'll no doubt get... 55R and 58R were just funny versions - they changed the bootloader meaning older/newer versions which weren't part of their 5xR line wouldn't work because they used a different loader. Using 72R should be fine to use as it doesn't do anything funny like the 55R ones did, so upgrading to 75R shouldn't pose a problem.
I think there's a way of checking if it includes a new bootloader in one of the flashing programs, but i've not got them installed at the mo so can't check for you i'm afraid

Woah, lots of questions! You've come to the right place to ask tho OK, here we go: I'm running XP SP2 and it runs absolutely fine, so no worries there. The files provided will flash your v525 to v600. Can't comment on the battery life unfortunately as I've only owned the V600, but some flashes supposedly improved battery life on it. I can't say I noticed anything major either way with any of the different versions though! I doubt using the V600 flash will really have much of an effect on the battery life, but you can always flash back anyway if it does. Branding is completely removed using the files on the guide page You don't need a dongle, but the cable needs to be of suitable quality to flash your handset. If it's an official Motorola one, it'll work no problem. As your phone is locked, you may get an error message after flashing it, as it'll think it's unlocked when it isn't really. Either unlock it to remove the message, or do a search on these forums for the error message you get in order to easily remove it. I believe the V547 is not a triplets handset, therefore you can't and definitely should NOT use this flash on it. Someone might correct me on this if it is a triplets handset, but I don't think it is. It would need a different version of the flash/flex files. Think that's all the questions answered, just post back if you've got any more and I'll try and help futher

I'd just like to say what an absolute load of rubbish this programme is, and it should hang it's head in shame for even trying to come close to QuizMania!
It's soo boring and lacks all the fun of QM, and i just saw their version of a speed round and it was awful!
All the presenters are pretty rubbish too (don't even get me started on Brian...).
Just as well i've got an old favourite daytime tv show to satisfy my needs, but i'll post about that in a different thread.

Completely non-technical method here, but i'd try and flick the contacts that are not touching out using something like a paperclip or something small but strong enough to get behind them and extend them out a bit.
Forgot what the other problem was now and can't go back and view it as posting from my phone, but does the screen light up for a second or two and then switch off, or does it stay on but nothing else happens?

I've never really been one to drop my phone a lot, with phones in the past it's been about once a year, and even then not very hard falls. However, with my 6230i, i've not been able to keep hold of it! The new cover i bought for it now looks about 2 years old and is covered in scratches, so it's a good job they're replaceable! Been happening about twice a week at the mo. Today i was making a call on it when it flew up and out my hand, only to land on the concrete floor and slide spinning away under my car! Not sure how it flew so far considering it just leaped out my hand without me doing anything much! Anyone else had a problem keeping hold of a particular handset, or is it just me?! I'd better be extra careful next time i'm near a river or the toilet or an abyss! Posted via WAP (http:///forum/index.php/topic,494.0.html) - Nokia6230i

The resolution of the phone isn't anything out of the norm nowadays, so if you have any video clips on your phone, that should give you a rough idea of the quality. However, as the video will be steaming, the quality may vary. It should be decent, but I would expect anything stunning from it! I'd imagine it's a similar quality to video calling - perhaps someone with more experience will post up an answer for you

How unfair, getting paid whilst watching an amazing show like QuizMania!
The Mint, which has replaced it, seems to be trying to be a more expensive/snazzy version of QM, but just doesn't have the fun atmosphere of it. I guess that's good in a way cos I should finally be able to go to sleep now instead of getting stuck watching tv! Plus i really can't stand that Brian guy from Big Bro, so could never watch a show with him in it as i'd end up trying to strangle the tv!

Mine will most probably be one of these two: SE K610 (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pp1_loader&php=php1_10389&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10389): (http://www.pocket.co.il/pictures14/SE-K610-FINAL.jpg) SE W810i (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pp1_loader&php=PHP1_10376&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10376): (http://www.newsmobile.it/telefoni/news/w810i_foto1.jpg) Hopefully something newer will be out to tempt me, but it's looking unlikely for when my upgrade is due I couldn't care less if the phone has an mp3 player/walkman built in, as I've already got an mp3 walkman which does the job very nicely! However, screen res isn't exactly stunning now (sort of lower than my current 6230i), and the camera is still 2mp, which whilst good, isn't mind-blowing.

Well, the legal answer is that I was able to beta test it being part of the MSDN subscriber network - http://msdn.microsoft.com/windowsvista/ However, I'll PM you Update on how I'm finding it - I'm stuck at a low resolution as the old graphics card I'm using doesn't work I think/half know it'll work in the 32bit version, but NVidia haven't got a Vista driver suitable Not sure I can be bothered to download the 32bit version edit: ok I got the graphics card working, forced an install of a similar card and it seems to have done the trick Just a word of warning for anyone thinking of installing it in its current state (full version might be different) - I have just started up my computer and have started up IE7 to type this, memory usage as reported by Task Manager is currently 670-700MB Bit of a change from 350-400MB on my XP64 version!!

Ya heard it here first folks! Glad to see I'm not the only late night Live! surfer tho It was something like 3am The speed thing is right tho, it's definitely faster at the moment, but I'll have to see how it goes as I used to get quite bad page hangs with the old style, where the connection was fine, but the page wouldn't load until about 5 mins later. Ah no, what a pain! You do wonder about car mechanics sometimes - i had my car booked in for a full service by a proper Ford centre, the following week took it to our local garage for a new spare tyre and they gave the car a quick once over while i was there, and they said the tracking needed adjusting even though it'd been done the week before by Ford! I've finally got my ethernet working in Gentoo!! I've not been able to try it out on my desktop since i've had it cos of the problem - kind of useless having a computer with no net connection - but apart from suse, gentoo was the only other linux i was really interested in. Left the install running as it should be downloading kde (live cd only came with gnome and i really don't like it) but unfortunately i didn't bother doing the setup properly as wasn't sure if it was going to work, so i'll probably have to start all over again in the morning if it installs successfully Ah well, it wasn't the 64bit version anyway so i'd just end up doing it again. It's certainly a good deal, but I suppose the connectivity issues could be a problem for you. However, it can be unlocked pretty easily (if a shop can't do it, we can do it remotely if you have a USB cable for it).
Are you going to be using it on any specific network, or are you after a whole new phone and sim card?

lol you might've pressed the shortcut to posting the reply if you were using the quick reply box - another nice thing about this forum You just need to press alt and s to post a topic, or alt and p to preview it I've also just made the main page of the forum AAA Bobby valid Which means it has passed all the accessibilty requirements for a wide range of users, and should meet the legal requirements for allowing access to users with a disibility! The rest of the pages will follow as I get time to update them. It also meets the 508 guidelines, which IIRC is the American version. more info on Bobby stuff: Bobby's accessibility analysis is an implementation of the May 5, 1999 version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines of the Web Accessibility Initiative. Bobby analyzes Web pages in accordance with these guidelines and, where possible, automatically checks guidelines.

http://www.novell.com/linux/xglrelease/ Looks interesting, 3d-a-fies the interface a bit more. Although seeing as I can't even get my graphics card working properly as is it in Linux, i'm not sure how useful it'd be to me!
You have GOT to see this in action! I've still not purchased a graphics card yet, so it's using the old GeForce2 MX 200/400 (no idea which) I raped from an old pc which had been laid to rest many years ago, and even on an old card like that, the effects which can be produced are stunning Think OSX but waaaay better - switching between desktops is certainly something I wouldn't have done before, but will start using it purely so I can use this feature more!

As title really - for me, I always liked the look of the Nokia 8850 (http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,18197,00.html) (http://www.nokia.co.uk/pics/phones/phone_models/8850_mainpage_s1.jpg) Never got it as I think it was pretty expensive at the time, and by the time my upgrade was due, I went for something with better specs. Still really like the look of it. I also wanted the Nokia 8110 ("banana phone" off The Matrix), but I think that was purely because it was on the film! (http://www.nokia.se/phones/8110/pics/8110_2.jpg) No idea if it was even out in the UK!

Hey welcome back! Glad you like the updated theme - this should be the last change for quite a long time now...honest! Hmm there isn't much info on it! Not sure that's a good sign This is the closest I can find to a review on it, dunno if you've already found it: Hi folks just bought a new MOS-1 mobile phone for my wife, got to admit it's the smallest flip I've seen on 3, next to LG U880. Camera,Screen ETC perfect! But here it comes. It doesn't have infrared or bluetooth and doesn't come with a data cable or software to transfer files. My question is, can you get the cable and software from anywhere. Looked at Amoi's website who make it for 3 and I am waiting for an email from them with hopefully an answer. They call it an Amoi H810. Don't get me wrong the phone is very stylish and small for a 3 phone and extremely easy and fast to use. But I cannot believe there's no usb cable and software even though if you go to their website under spec it states usb connectivity!!! Where I ask. I think I have a 14 day return policy and out of all fairness I fancy this phone myself the 262k screen is smooth and the keys very organised once you get used to the setup. That sounds like a nightmare trying to make sense of all those nested tables It's hard enough making sense of someone elses neat design/code, let alone messy code like that! Hopefully better css support by IE will give things a boost in the right direction, as long as it's better than the beta version! That just didn't display sites well at all. Spanks! (hmm, seems to have become a permanent replacement for thanks, i'll have to see if I can get a smiley to depict it instead!) I don't know what it is about css, but it's just really addictive When I started on mob's main site, i had no idea i'd actually go as far as replacing all the tables on a forum! Certainly going to take a while tho Tables just seem really messy when compared with table-less design, so I guess it's just a good habit to get into...altho am I taking it a little far now, as I've just also replaced the w3c valid xhtml image logos at the bottom of the forum with...css! Also, is it just me, or is the main page and actually the rest of the forum (as most of that has partial conversion in places) seem much faster? Doesn't seem to have to keep re-jigging to sort out the table sizes like before

The front page (whilst still not quite finished in terms of design), is now completely valid xhtml 1.1! And there's not a table in sight! Technically tables could be used, but I just don't like them Well...everything's valid except for the copyright But I can't do anything about that otherwise it breaks the forum with a massive copyright breach notice! Only problem is, I destroyed IE on this laptop trying out, and then promptly uninstalling, IE7beta - can anyone with a few mins to spare just stick up a quick screen shot of the main page on here for me, so I can see if it looks how it should? FF and Opera are both just dandy, but I had to change something to make the forum valid, and suspect it might break something in IE

Ah, I'm afraid without a cable we can't unlock this even if you paid us! Currently, only methods I know of are paid methods anyway, as you need access to a Motorola server type thing, which they charge for access. As we can't offer free methods, these are paid methods just so you know, as if you are desperate to get it unlocked, it might be cheaper than getting 3 to unlock it for you http://www.mob453.com/unlocking/motorola-unlocking-c-21.html Alternatively, you could see if someone in your local town has the hardware required to do this for you, in which case you wouldn't need to buy yourself a cable.

Update: I have sound working finally I also have my resolution working properly now! Basically, when i put it into the native resolution of my monitor (1680x1050), it didn't look right and my monitor OSD reported it being in 1280x1024 or something along those lines, and with an incorrect refresh rate. Anyway this fixed it for me: sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia -V 0:1680x1050@60 Well, technically the refresh rate is being reported at 58Hz, so I might fiddle more later, but at least everything is looking nice and sharp and in the right proportions now! Seeing as this is the only OS I can print from, I'd better try not to break anything else

I can't find mine at the mo i'm afraid But I did find this (http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=10822&start=0), which suggests it is indeed possible to use it as you want! I have bought a Logitech Bluetooth Headset Pro (HS01) and an X-Micro Bluetooth dongle for my PC - AND IT WORKS GREAT!
Getting there was however quite troublesome with a lot of "trial and error", but once you know the tricks, it takes less than ½ hour to set it up, so I would like to share my experiences with you. This is how to go ahead under XP SP2 (at your own risk):
1) Buy a Bluetooth version 1.1 or version 1.2 dongle with Class 1 reach ("up to 100 meters"). The brand of the dongle is not important (as long as it is not Sony Vaio!), but it is very important to check the specs of the dongle to make sure it supports "headset" services. You should go for Bluetooth version 1.2 if possible, as it has better headset support and is less susceptible to WLAN interference. My dongle uses the Widcomm drivers and as far as I know, all Widcom drivers from version 1.4.2.10 and up support headsets. Alternative drivers are from BlueSoleil, but I don't know much about them (search the Forum for tips on BlueSoleil!).
2) Download latest drivers for the dongle from the producers' website (if avaliable).
3) Make an XP back-up point (just to be sure).
4) Install the dongle using the latest drivers for your dongle according to the manual and then reboot. In most cases, Bluetooth is NOT working correctly now - the Widcomm Bluetooth "B" icon in the system tray (lower right of your screen) is red. You might also see a white and light blue "B" icon, but that is the Microsoft Bluetooth (bad!). This is how your Bluetooth icon should look when you have completed the steps below - compare with the MS Bluetooth icon: This is the Microsoft Bluetooth icon - follow the steps below to disable. The Widcomm Bluetooth icon is red when the Widcomm driver needs a manual update (follow the steps below).
Added note September 2005: Many Bluetooth dongle producers are now aware of the troubles with Microsoft drivers and have added functions in the drivers that do automatically disable the MS BT drivers, so you might be lucky that everything works fine (white non-MS BT icon) right after installing the drivers. If not continue to the next step!
5) Go through "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel" > "System" > "Hardware" > "Device manager" and then expand "Bluetooth devices". You will most probably see two different Bluetooth drivers - one from Microsoft and a "Generic" or "CSR" (or other) driver.
6) Disable the Microsoft driver - DO NOT remove! This is the problem with XP SP2 - Microsoft Bluetooth drivers will allways be installed and will override Widcomm drivers, but they have no support for headsets! If you remove the driver, it will reinstall again if/when the dongle is reconnected, so do only disable. Hopefully one day soon MS drivers will support and work with headsets and the Bluetooth headsets will finally just be "plug and play"... An ALTERNATIVE step 6 (more complicated but technically better) is posted by Kevoh92 in this thread: http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=14646
7) Right-click on the "non-MS" Bluetooth driver and choose "Update driver...". Click along in order to get to where you can manually select the driver for your dongle (the "Have disk..." option). Point to the file called "btwusb.inf" on CD or in downladed driver files and update with this driver. Reboot only if necessary. Bluetooth "B" icon in your system tray should be white now - if that is the case, then non-MS Bluetoth is now working on your PC and you're half-way through! This is how your Bluetooth icon should look - now you're ready to play!
Note: The Microsoft Bluetooth icon will always remain visible in the control panel (root directory), but that is no problem!
8 ) Activate Bluetooth on your PC and pair with your headset according to the manual (quite simple but it takes a few steps). Experience shows that it is a good idea not to activate the "audio gateway" profile, but only the "headset" profile. If you know that you need other profiles for e.g. file sharing over BT or other stuff, then do activate those profiles, but keeping it to a minimum will surely minimize the risk of setup errors!
9) Close Skype completely, restart Skype and then choose "Bluetooth Audio" as sound input and output in Skype.
10) Connect your headset from the PC (Right-click on BT icon on the lower right of the screen, choose "Fast connection" > "Headset" and then choose your headset). Receive the incoming call on the headset itself (press "accept call" button when you hear a repeating sound in the headset). If the Bluetooth "B" in the system tray goes green, you're nearly there! Your headset is now in "call" mode so it does consume battery at the highest rate (my Logitech still has power for 6 hours in this state). All audio on your PC now goes through the headset.
11) Make a test call to Skype profile "echo123" and do a test recording.
12) If your hear audio and your own recorded testcall, you're done! CONGRATULATIONS!
____________________________________________________________________
13) If you hear the nice lady, but not your own test call (or just noise), then it is most probably because you do not have the latest Bluetooth driver installed. If you hear nothing at all, check carefully if you did all of the above once again - or you might not have a Bluetooth 1.1 dongle (in that case - bad luck!).
14) Did you download the latest driver from the producer of your dongle? If not, do so and go to step 16. Widcomm 1.4.2.10 does sometimes work fine, but you're better off, if you can get a Widcom 1.4.3 or 3.0.1.xxx driver.
Added note September 2005: Widcomm Bluetooth drivers used to be available from many Blutooth dongle producer's websites, but because a lot of people cross-downloaded drivers from other producers' websites, it is now nearly impossible to find BT drivers on the web which are not locked to the producers own dongles (through MAC address) or in other ways password protected. It is therefore important that you buy the rigt dongle (see step 1) in the first place!
16) When you have found a more recent Blutooth driver then unzip/unpack the files in a re-findable directory (do not run any install.exe or other exe-files in the unzipped folder). Then repeat steps 7 to 12 and you should be up and running!
____________________________________________________________________
With my headset and class 1 dongle, my whole house is covered with a fairly good sound quality (sort of like a cellular phone). Even with 15 meters to the dongle and a 15 cm concrete wall in between, a conversation is by all means possible. What a great addition to Skype!!!
However, DO NOT expect the crisp Skype quality that you are used to using a wired headset - most BT headset users are slightly dissappointed with the sound quality! Sound quality seems to depend a lot on the driver and on the headset.
Only downside - you have to repeat step 10 above (only) before I start using the Bluetooth headset after each reboot of my PC, but I can then use it for any number of consecutive calls (until battery runs out after 6 hours!). Alternatively, you can buy "SkypeHeadset" (www.skypeheadset.co.uk) for 10 GDP / 15 EUR / 20 USD and then your BT headset will connect automatically at each call. I use it and it works well on my PC, despite some driver problems with my Nokia PC Suite...
A tip: Shut down your BT headset using the on/off button on the headset before shutting down you PC - in that way all sound settings are set back to default on your PC instead of all sound getting directed to the BT headset.
I believe that the above procedure will work for most headsets and Bluetooth 1.1 dongles.

Must say I'm not bowled over by Linux, considering it's the 64bit version I expected things to load a little faster than it does. Ah well, I'll apply some tweaks and see how it goes - it's definitely come on a LOT since I last tried; you could actually use it as a proper OS now, which is just as well seeing as I can't find my XP disk!

Well the spare drive just spewed out errors, something about "Disk I/O error : Status=0008020 Failed to arcread the boot partition to check for a disk signature." So that got me no-where. Maybe I just hadn't got the dvd drive and harddrive setup properly (ie slave/master jumpers etc). Stuck the drives into another desktop, recognised one without a problem and I was able to access and save the major stuff, which is just as well because I accidentally wiped out the whole thing when I pressed a button in a recovery program I had! Bye bye Windows As it was a demo version I'd activated, I hope reinstalling it from scratch doesn't mean I can't use it still Stuck the other HD into the other desktop too, some weeeeird partitions on there thanks to Linux Sorted that out too fairly easily with the HD prog I had Now...why was it impossible to format them using the boot cds/recovery programs/linux stuff I was able to access, yet a simple program was able to sort it in a few seconds?! I'm wondering if Partition Magic and XP64 didn't mix too meaning I couldn't restore my partitions before it went absolutely wrong. So back to square one, just waiting for the rest of XP64 to install...then I might give linux another go on the spare HD...! Bit scared now but as long as I leave the XP disk alone, I should be able to fix it again...hopefully!

doh! Well I think I've luckily got a spare somewhere - I'll give it a try. What did you use to fix it? Just normal windows stuff to format, or a special prog? I've got into the recovery console using a boot disk, but none of the format commands work

Well strike gentoo off the list... Couldn't get the network card working again so didn't even bother trying to progress with the install. I must say it looks much nicer to install compared with the first version i tried when it was still a new distro years ago! Downloading SUSE now - my theory is that both rr64 and gentoo were based on the older linux kernel, whereas suse is more recent. Seeing as my mobo has only been out a few months, i presume the older kernels don't recognise it properly seeing as none of the onboard stuff works. If that fails, i'm not sure what else to try! I don't have the time to read up properly on the subject, but is there an easy way to install like a driver or something for it? It seems to find a device, but after giving it the right settings with net-setup it can't even ping my router My printer had better work after all this too!! Well RR64 seems very nice indeed, only problem is, it refuses to install to my harddrives, and it won't recognise my lan card or sound card! Bah. Suppose i'll give SUSE a try next, but might try Gentoo properly quickly seeing as the download is only 390mb compared with about 9000GB for SUSE...

Now that I've finally built (most of) my PC, I kind of forgot you need an operating system to actually use it! The last copy of Windows I bought was Win98, mainly because one desktop or laptop has been upgraded within the past few years and came with a copy of XP installed already. However, no discs so I can't get it onto this desktop Seeing as I now have a 64bit processor, I thought I'd give the trial version of WinXP 64bit a go. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't fork out for the full version! It's a nice OS and is fast and pretty much just like XP, but unfortunately you need 64bit drivers for just about everything - luckily most stuff I've got drivers for, but something pretty important (my network laser printer) doesn't have any 64bit drivers for it, and to complicate things needs its own port drivers in order to function Not very good for my work when I need to print out copies of stuff! Soo...I'm not going to buy a new version of Windows with Longhorn/Vista supposedly due out this year, and I don't think I can cope with Win98 again (although hellooo Syndicate Wars! Not been able to play that for years due to it being too old for XP to handle!), which leaves me with...Linux, seeing as it's free. I've used Linuxes in the past, but never really like it. But I have no choice at the moment it appears, and things have moved on since my last ventures into the penguin land, so here's hoping it's a nice experience! My last Linux, I think, was United Linux...so much for that lasting! Seems the download I got was the only release they made! Anyway, I tried Gentoo previously but couldn't get it to install on my laptop (graphics problems - screen faded to white and this made it somewhat hard to see what to do). I can't be bothered with spending hours compling it but came across RR4/RR64 linux (http://www.lxnaydesign.net/) which seems to be a live dvd version of it Going to give it a whirl in the hope of being able to print something, will give an update on how I get on with it! Anyone else had experience with Linux, and if so, which versions? I was going to go for SUSE, and in fact tried installing it over the network, but unfortunately I just encountered a lot of trouble with it not finding servers and stuff so gave up.

It gets EVERYWHERE! i thought i'd scratched my screen really badly as it wasn't as sharp as normal and everything was looking dull, but i removed the case to change the keypad and gave the screen a quick wipe whilst it was off, and it's so much clearer and nearly as new! Always amazes me how it gets into even the tiniest of spaces... Anyway, enough random thoughts, time for bed! Posted via WAP (http:///forum/index.php/topic,494.0.html) - Nokia6230i

lol probably! I think this is where a 15 year old girl was able to buy a phone, and, despite giving her age etc when buying, her phone was not blocked from accessing porno and adult content (paid ones i think, not sure), which the network operators could easily block by default. It certainly wasn't Vodafone they had this problem on, because I was blocked from adult content, and i'm over 18!!

Ericsson T39 without a doubt. ...are there any at the moment?! Can't say anything happening at the mo has sparked my interest, but there must be something new and exciting due to happen or be released soon? Recon this is just the quiet before the storm so to speak, or just a very dull part of the year for phones? Last year the big thing was probably phones reaching decent standards in terms of camera quality, e.g. megapixel cameras etc. A year on and nothing much seems to have happened Also, what was the last decent clamshell phone - Nokia's recent efforts have been a pile of and seem to be 2 years behind (except the n-series bricks), Samsung continue with their existing designs from last year (ie E700 type phones), and that's about all I can think of. Motorola are still selling 2 year old technology at premium prices (v3, v3 black, v3 pink), so I guess they're going to try and do that for as long as possible. PLUS...no company has taken up the challenge of making an updated T39 flip phone, which would quite frankly be the ultimate handset! /me ends rant

You're right about drivers being a pain! Had to find a really old one by some random company in order to install the graphics card as new ones didn't work with it for some reason. I guess the card being pretty old doesn't help, but it'll do for now, esp since a new Nvidia has also been announced for March! However, i'm not sure this old card will be able to play HL2 so i might still have to wait even longer! Problem is, I've gone waaaay overbudget in just about every area except the cpu (which is probably the cheapest part of my system!), so not sure I want to add up the costs! Ah well, case and cooling due tomorrow, which just leaves me to decide which graphics card to get, or see if I can hang on til the x1900 is released which will hopefully reduce the price of the current top end cards to something affordable - £470 for a graphics card is a bit extreme quite frankly!!

You might need to remove web sessions - can you manually add any more settings? If you can't, then my guess is you need to remove some of the web sessions in order to make space for the new settings.

If you flash the phone now and your phone is locked, it'll give an error message when you turn the phone on. This doesn't mean anything bad, just that your phone is still locked. You can remove the message either by unlocking it, or by editing a specific file on the phone. I'm posting from my phone at the mo so can't give you a direct link, but if you search this forum for the error you get, you'll find the solution Posted via WAP (http:///forum/index.php/topic,494.0.html) - Nokia6230i

Unfortunately you can't unlock it for free We can do it via cable and software, but only at cost i'm afraid. As for changing the flex to v600, that can be done fairly easily, and as I believe it's based on triplets firmware (you may want to search these forums to double check), you can just use everything found at http://www.mob453.com/phones/motorola_v600/

I decided to go for it as couldn't wait any longer! Went for an AMD Opteron in the end, which I'm planning on overclocking to 2.8Ghz-ish (bit scared to try for 3GHz at the mo!) which should make it up to something around Athlon 64 FX levels, but at a cost of only £100 (instead of something like £700 for the FX)! By the time the new and unlreased dual cores become more reasonably priced, it'll be near to the 2nd half or end of 2006, so I really can't be bothered to wait any more!

https://www.immobilise.com/register.ikml?id=1 Just came across this, thought it might be useful in case any of your phones get stolen: How it Works
Immobilise is powered by MEND (the database system that stores your phone and other property identifiers and your personal details). Police Forces across the country have access to this information to assist them to check the ownership of phones and other property they recover, as do other agencies such as Transport for London and lost property offices.
You register your details via the registration page. Once you have registered, you will be notified by email of your personal account details which will include your login name and password. The details you registered will be made available to the police to help them identify recovered mobile phones and any other recorded property. If your phone or other property is lost or stolen, then this will improve your chances of getting it back. You will be reminded from time to time to ensure that the details on your account are up to date (this will be done via an email to your contact email address). You can add or amend details of your account at anytime.

Anyone here on O2 and willing to send a video clip to a specific email addy? Let me know if so! I think O2 convert their videos to avi instead of keeping them as 3gp, but need to check my suspicion before putting in all the work needed to support O2s funny system (which in theory is good for users sending to a proper email addy, just not to mobmms!)

If i remember correctly, the loudspeaker comes out from a different place to that of voices in calls, so it's possible there is a loose connection or hardware fault here. I know that when I took my V600 apart, the speaker part was rather delicate and fiddily to get working. If you've not changed anything major then i would guess it's most probably hardware rather than software related

Ah right, 2.2mbps is the speed of your internet connection that you connect with, and 100mbps is the speed that your computer is connected to your modem/router. Basically this means that although your network can transfer files between other computers on the network at 100mbsp, you'll still download files and pages from the internet at the 2.2mbps speed I think that makes sense! It sounds perfectly normal anyway!

Argh this is madness! It's so much more complicated to make a new PC compared with 2/3 years ago! Here's where I am currently: I think I'm going down the AMD route - after holding out hopes for the new Intel processors, I read this (http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/10/10/intel_moves_from_dual_core_to_double_core/page11.html) which said the following about the Intel 900 series: What the new chip cannot do, however, is pose a real threat right now to AMD's Athlon 64 X2 family in the area of performance leadership. The Pentium D 900 certainly is the much better product when compared to the 800 series, but it mainly introduces a number of improvements that were overdue. So sounds like the processor I hoped would be an AMD beater...isn't! Now the only problem is - AMD are due to release new stuff in April 2006 (M2 stuff), which includes DDR2 and I think virtualisation (altho Intel have got that VIIV stuff as part of their new range and DDR2 already). Do I wait or not??! If it was just a speed increase I wouldn't bother waiting, but seeing as it'd be a new socket and DDR2...I'm quite tempted to wait. Although I still haven't been able to play Half-Life 2 I got a YEAR ago, and want to play a few other new PC games which I won't be able to til I get a desktop. Which leads me on to my following thoughts: When the new AMD processors are released in April 06, it's likely they'll be their top of the range stuff - so £600-700? The processor I had my eye on before finding out about an April release was the Athlon 64 X2 4800 2.4Ghz, but that was a shocking £560!! So decided the 4400 2.2GHz at £360 was more acceptable. But even then, I would only be able to justify spending anywhere near that amount if I knew it was not going to be replaced (in terms of technology, not speed) within the next 6 months. Therefore, new processors being released = drop in price of the 4400 to something even better, or I could kind of justify spending a bit more on the newer tech. This leads me on to my next problem (if you're still reading! )... As i'm fairly reluctant to spend close to £400 on something that I know will be outdated in April (I don't care after that as I know it won't be til end of 2006/start of 2007 before the next big changes), I was wondering whether to get a cheapish processor/mobo to last until around May/June, by which time the new AMD stuff should have been out, and the initial price hike should have dropped a tiny bit to something more affordable. I've been doing some research and it seems that the best value for money at the moment, if I can get hold of one, is part of the Opteron range - for me, probably the 165 as it's a dual core and overclocks well, so i'd get up to about 2.6GHz overclocking it (from 1.8GHz) if I'm able to. However, if I did that, I'd need DDR ram too, not DDR2, and still end up paying a fair bit, in which case I probably wouldn't end up changing to the new processor when it's released later as a new mobo, cpu and ram is basically a complete gutting!!! Anyway, sorry it's a massive post, just trying to get my thoughts out! I just need to decide whether to wait or try going cheaper and do my first ever overclocking to get a bargain now! Edit: unless there's a cheapo Intel mobo/cpu combo with DDR2 support, in which case I won't need to pay for RAM twice, and could probably build a celeron desktop and mobo for just over £100...

Ah, I think the full version of the forum tries to be clever when submitting a post and kind of grays out the submit button to prevent double posting. Also previews use javascript to generate your reply so that you don't need to keep reloading the page. There may be more things too but I'll have to take a look at the template to see exactly what. See if it works with java disabled? I'm not sure it will but might be worth a shot. I'll see if I can test it later. Oh, the FAQ for Opera Mini says: Can Opera Mini run JavaScript? During the initial processing, scripts are executed. Once the information is transferred to the phone, Opera Mini's script engine is capable of performing common scripting tasks, such as form validation. Can Opera Mini run Java, or plug-ins such as Macromedia Flash? No. Due to memory constraints, Opera Mini cannot run Java or plug-ins. So there may be some limitations in the javascripts it can run

If you flash/flex the phone with an unbranded version of the software, that should remove any branding and make it as if you'd bought it sim-free (i.e. not with a network).
It might be possible with some seem editing, but I've no idea on that I'm afraid, so flashing will probably be your best bet.
As for which files you'll need, there's probably some listed in this forum somewhere, if not, post back here and we'll see if we can help!

I'm having MAJOR problems with connecting to sites at the mo thanks to Pipex breaking So can anyone let me know briefly what the options are in terms of dual core processors (64 bit if poss!)? The first post I linked to an article which said something about new 64bit Intel processors being out this month - any idea if this has happened and what they are called? Any idea if "Presler" is 64bit? I think the Pentium EE 955 and Pentium D 940 and 950 will be using this core, but can't quite remember and I can't check cos of my net connection

Unlocking won't help with the stuff that's on there, it'll only let you use it on different networks/sim cards. If you remove ALL the ringtones, you'll find that something breaks (I can't quite remember what, i think it's the ability to select which ring mode you want or something). There's certain ringtones you need to keep on there, while the rest can be removed safely. To be honest, you'll be best off removing the videos and images to get most space. I'm not sure if i'll be around tonight to find out which ringtones are safe to remove, but if I get the chance to, i'll let you know!

Ah, now this I can explain, but not sure if I can resolve: The videos are now in Flash format, not QuickTime as originally, due to increased support in all browsers and operating systems (also I'd just wiped my laptop and couldn't be bothered to install QuickTime ). As a result, the files stream - that's the "progress" type bar you see - it shows how much it's pre-loaded I think. Problem is, due to a limitation of the flash format, it's not true streaming in that you can't skip from one point to another. I think there may be either a new version of flash or some server platform which supports this, but I'm not sure. If it's free and I can do it, i'll update the vids, but i wouldn't hold your breath at the mo!

Hi Scimmy,
Have a quick look over this thread - http://www.mob453.com/forum/index.php/topic,1051.0.html
There's some software on there which may be able to help unlock your phone. Unfortunately I've not tried it out personally so can't provide any more info on it, perhaps if someone on this forum has they'll post here and let you know a bit more detail if you need it!
If the free method doesn't work, it can be unlocked, but only via paid methods. If you have a cable for it, we can provide such a service, or you may be able to find someone locally to do it for you.

You might be able to download some software from the Samsung website to let you access the files on it (you'd need a sim card in it though and a cable, as it doesn't have InfraRed or BlueTooth). Actually I've just had a quick look and couldn't find any software that specifically says it works with that handset. I'm rather tired so i'll try and remember to check tomorrow, but maybe if I can find the equivalent handset of the A670 but here in the UK, there might be some software suitable. Long shot maybe, but might be worth looking into. Unless Verizon have altered the firmware to prevent such access... Horus seems to know a fair bit about samsung phones and flashing them etc, so he may be able to offer more info when he pops on Sorry I can't be of much more help, I'll see if I can come up with anything better tomorrow

To delete websessions from the V600, start up P2Kman and locate the /a/WebSession file (at the bottom). Once deleted, restart your phone and your websessions should be gone! You'll then be able to add your own settings or download them from the internet via a text message.
You might need to put the one you wanted to keep back on after removing the others, as I don't think you can keep just the one

(although if i remember correctly, technically FireFox cheats to give the impression of speed in some cases, esp when tables are involved, as IE waits til the whole page is loaded to get the layout right, whereas FF reloads it when fully done if not correct, but it's still really fast on www.mob453.com and www.mobmms.com which contain no tables at all!) It exists and works without VM Ware - someone has reported it working on my exact laptop. And yes, it's the leaked developer version. Technically i think it's only supposed to work on certain configs. Just looked at DrNos link, and that just seems to confirm it. I really don't see why it wouldn't work (with a bit of hacking) when all the hardware is now basically the same. The first version which came out needed VM Ware to be installed, whereas the later hacked ones have an installer apparently, so should therefore run natively. The only major requirement seems to be SSE2 or 3 or whatever those extensions are called. I've got links but not sure if I can post them

Apparently it's sort of possible now - I'm trying to download the files now, but it's going to take a verrrrry long time (files are between 2GB and 4GB, and the speed of download isn't good). Don't really want to use OS X, just curious! I think it's because Apple have changed from IBM processors to Intel ones, therefore changing over to the x86 side of things. Seeing as the processor was the main major difference stopping mac stuff working on pcs, I suppose it's very possible indeed that someone will be able to hack a working version for pcs now. Anyway, I'll download bits of it whenever I'm online and see if it works. But seeing as I don't have a PC with a dvd rewriter yet, this may be a waste of time as I might not be able to install it! Altho someone has got it working on an X40, so I guess I should be able to aswell... I'll probably get bored of downloading and try again when I build a desktop pc at xmas, but thought some of you might find this info interesting

Yup, open the pic on the pc - or you can print it out and take a photo of it to avoid the lines. It's a japanese thing that's not properly come over here yet, and obviously they're far more advanced technology-wise, with most their phones coming with macro mode etc so it's less of a problem for them. Unfortunately I don't think most of our phones are up to the job yet! This *may* ask you to connect as well - but if it does that, then it means it's working! I think it may just link to the wap site here so wouldn't bother connecting if you don't want to. I'm not 100% it'll work on the Moto, as they tend to need their java apps to have some kind of special signature, but might be worth a shot. I'll try on the e720 too, but as the d500 is on the not working list, i won't hold my breath!

ok, testing out two technologies here: This apparently works on S60 phones and certain java handsets. Again none of mine are supported but the k750 and k750i etc is so might be worth a try! If you want to download the software onto your phone OTA, go here: http://www.mob453.com/vid/ or grab the files attached and upload to your phone. Then load the software up, point it at the image attached, and let me know if it works!

I can't get the pc to acknowledge the card is in the computer, so can't do it thru dos I did try some software to restore the photos before formatting, but to no avail because of the pc not believing a card is in there It was only a 64mb card, SanDisk I think, so might take a look at 256mb cards later (probably not made by SanDisk tho!). Any recommended brands?

Easiest one I've ever used is Lycoris (http://www.lycoris.com/). Very easy and works well compared with some of the others I tried at the time. Closest one to a Windows type version of Linux when I tried a whole load a while ago. Looks like they've combined with Mandriva though or something since my last download!
Which version of Windows are you running at the mo? I've not had a BSOD on XP for...well, I can't actually remember!

When the handset changes from the 3G video calling network to the normal 2G network, it'll give that error. They both use different frequencies so the phone needs to choose which one to use. It's like changing from Radio 1 to Radio 2 or something - can't listen to them both at the same time, so a change of stations is required.
Bonus of staying on 2G is longer battery life

Only other range apart from SE that springs to mind is the Nokia N series, unless you go down the smartphone route. I think Samsung are meant to be releasing some handsets with massive capacity, but not sure about that as just from memory.

My ThinkPad won't even let me access the drive as it thinks nothing is in there - so any ideas about forcing a card reader to read a card?! Any help welcome!

I used to use an Ericsson (T39) and loved it, but after using a Nokia, I'm not sure I can go back now as it's just so fast and easy to do what you want. I've not used a new SE for a decent amount of time in one go though, and while the speed is much better, there's something that still doesn't seem right...I suppose it could be the fact that I've not liked any of SEs designs in recent years...!

Not yet, I've a feeling it's going to be a lot! I wouldn't really know where to look online for decent quality PCs - last shop I bought one from was Escom (great company imo!), upgraded that, then went to the laptop side for the past 4 years. Built one for my sis, but can't remember how much that cost now... I'm after some fairly specific stuff though to keep it quiet - Samsung Spinpoint HD, graphics card without the massive fans they come with now, fanless mobo, etc. If I could get something like that pre-built, I'd much prefer it as don't really have the time to wait around for individual parts which go to the wrong house or 4 days after delivery date, and then assemble it all together - recon it's possible or bit too specific? This is all because of my last laptop which sounded like a washing machine constantly! My ThinkPad is so amazingly quiet I don't think I can go back to even standard desktop noise from under the desk!

btw, you can use some of the refund to buy a converter for the cable i believe - might be the easiest option now to get it working.

Right, so I recon dual core is the way forwards then, I'll ignore the pentium m as a possibility, and wait for intel to bring out the fully amd 64 specced versions Hopefully by that time the next lot of graphics cards will be out, so the current high-end ones will go down to something more affordable than the stupid prices being charged now (more than a cpu for a graphics card?! What's going on!?). I'm going to watercool it all so ideally need cooler processors to ease the strain, depending on which cooling solution I go for - so recon I'll stick with Intel. Thanks for the help with the questions, I'll probably have more later though! edit: hmm just seen your post Rambo - 32 is pretty cool, I guess if I can't wait I'll jump ship and go AMD if a. intel take too long to get the new chips out, and b. they're waaaay overpriced.

I'm trying to build a new PC - problem is, soo much has changed since I last built one and I'm a little confused! Can someone confirm/deny what I think I've gathered so far? Intel don't do 64 bit processors yet? (edit: or is that what the Xeons are?!) Dual processor at eg 3ghz should be faster than a single one at, i dunno, 4ghz - but only in the future when supported more? Pentium M's are pretty good, but there's only 3 motherboards for desktop systems at the mo. I presume a dual processor would be better still though? Intel run cooler than AMD in general?
Does this page (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/08/xeon_amd64_fix/) mean that if I wait a bit longer, Intel will finally have an equivalent of an AMD 64 out? Why are they trying to be AMD64 compatible - is there not a standard 64bit processor standard? I think that's all for now If anyone can help me out that'd be great!

Apparently it was sent via. first class from the suppliers, but they said that if it hasn't arrived by today, they'll send again via recorded delivery (which, in my opinion, it should've been sent via in the first place ). Have you not contacted unlocking directly via email? That may be why you have not heard anything back, seeing as this is an informal phone chat section mainly.

It's an automatic email, so as soon as we get the code, you will too - however, as you ordered when there was a weekend in the middle, it'll take a little longer due to different working hours. Although if ordered on Wed/Thurs, it should be here by now... I'll double check though for you just to make sure

http://www.icstis.org.uk/icstis2002/PhoneNumberLookup/AskPhoneNumber.asp Just type in the number the text message came from, and whichever company sent it should show up on that page! You can then hopefully get in contact with them to see if you can stop any further unwanted premium rate text messages from being sent to you. Texting back STOP or STOP ALL to the number it came from should also prevent any further texts from being sent.
